Activate self-healing

How body, mind, and nutrition influence your recovery

In osteopathy and physiotherapy, the focus is on the person as a whole – not just the symptom. The body's ability to heal itself plays a central role. But what many don't know is that this power is there – it just needs to be properly supported.

Stress – the greatest enemy of your self-healing

Chronic stress acts like an internal brake. Stress hormones such as cortisol and norepinephrine block important regenerative processes.

  • Cell growth is inhibited.

  • Inflammation becomes chronic instead of being reduced.

  • Immune cells are weakened.

  • Sleep disorders are on the rise.

One study even shows that wounds heal up to 40% slower in stressed individuals – solely due to hormonal imbalances. Conversely, a calm, balanced mind can actively promote healing. Therefore , mental health is not a secondary matter, but a central aspect of your biology.

What exactly are self-healing powers?

Self-healing doesn't mean you "don't need help"—it means your body fundamentally possesses the ability to regulate, repair, and protect itself. This includes:

  • Wound healing through cell regeneration

  • Immune defense against germs, viruses and foreign substances

  • Regression of inflammation

  • Hormonal balance

  • Restoration of damaged organs

Almost all organs possess these abilities – the extent just varies.

"So it's not that we heal the body – we just give it the right impulses so that it can heal itself."

Cell repair begins in the shopping basket

Wound healing, tissue regeneration, and immune function require building blocks – and these come from your diet. Without them, self-healing cannot occur.

Important nutrients:

  • Vitamin A – Cell division & mucous membrane formation

  • Vitamin C – Collagen formation & immune function

  • Protein – the building block of every cell

  • Zinc – anti-inflammatory

A vitamin C deficiency can severely delay wound healing – even in the case of minor injuries.

What is interfering with the healing process?

  • Alcohol and nicotine inhibit cell migration.

  • Highly processed foods promote silent inflammation.

  • A low-fiber diet weakens the microbiome.

The vagus nerve – your inner regeneration switch

The vagus nerve connects the brain, heart, lungs, intestines, and other organs. It is part of the parasympathetic nervous system ("rest and digest") – and therefore crucial for regeneration, healing, and inflammation reduction.

You can activate the vagus nerve by:

  • Humming, gargling, singing (vocal vibration)

  • Deep, slow breathing

  • Cold applications

  • Meditation & Mindfulness

The more active the vagus nerve, the better the immune system, the lower the level of inflammation – and the faster the wound healing.

Holistic health is teamwork.

As an osteopath and physiotherapist, I support you in strengthening your self-healing powers. Because true healing requires more than just treatment – it requires:

  • relaxation

  • Nutrient supply

  • Mindfulness

  • Movement

  • And targeted therapeutic impulses

If you are ready to support your body holistically, I would be happy to accompany you on this journey.
